Fall has arrived, and the SRWC is in the spirit of giving!

During the month of November, the SRWC has been hosting various Fall into Giving events, a series of programs that encourages students to donate canned food throughout the month that will later be donated to the campus interfaith food pantry. Anyone who donates at least one can becomes able to participate in any of three main Fall into Giving events, and event participants are put in a drawing for the opportunity to win a 3D bike.

The first of these three events is the 3rd Annual Spin & Give Spinathon taking place on Tuesday, Nov. 17 from 4 – 7 pm. Participants can save a spot on the spin bikes by donating one can for one seat. Participants can donate more cans to spin more hours, and can earn a maximum of three hours during the evening. Three instructors will change each hour to lead the Spinathon. Anyone who donates five or more cans of food is placed into an opportunity drawing for a chance to win a polar heart rate monitor.

Another event is slacklining at the rock wall area. These events are weekly and have been taking place every Tuesday in November from 3 – 6 p.m. The final slacklining event will take place Tuesday November 17. The final “Fall into Giving” event of the season will be wheelchair basketball. This 3-on-3 wheelchair basketball tournament will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 2 – 4 p.m. in the SRWC Main Gym. Like with the other giving events, participants must come with an item of canned food in hand. Participants will have opportunities to compete for various basketball-themed prizes.

“The events are fun, and it’s also a great way to get in the mood for Thanksgiving and the idea of giving back,” said Interim Assistant Director of ASI Recreation Maureen MacRae. “It’s also a way to burn those holiday calories in advance, preparing for all the food we’re about to eat on Thanksgiving. It’s a great way to have fun with friends.”

If unable to participate in the events, all SRWC members are still welcome to drop off canned food items throughout the month of November at the display set up in the SRWC lobby.
