Duathalon

For the past two years the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) has hosted the SRWC Triathlon. Yet, when the swimming portion intimidated many of the participants the SRWC decided to try something different, a Duathalon.

The first annual Duathalon will be held on Friday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Duathalon will consist of running two miles on the treadmill; cycling five miles on the new Star Trac spin bike and running one mile on the SRWC track. (There will be sign-up slots for five people to participate every 45 minutes).

“I encourage students to participate because it’s a fun way to get a really good workout and challenge yourself physically,” said Fitness Coordinator Maureen MacRae. “The Duathalon will be less intimidating and it will also be good training for anyone interested in doing races, such as the CSULB Club Sport Triathlon.”

Weight Room Attendant Sean Kerr believes the Duathalon is an excellent way for students to not only compete with others, but also to compete and challenge themselves. “People are capable of so much more than they think, but unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow,” he said.

The male and female participant with the overall fastest time will receive a championship T- shirt and $20 in U-Bucks. All participants will be eligible to enter a raffle for a 3G bike. Participants can start signing up for their time slot starting Friday, April 10, at the SRWC fitness desk.
