Spin and Give

The 3rd Annual Spin and Give Spin-a-thon is on Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Spin Zone area of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC).

Participants can spin for 1-3 hours, but anyone who donates 5 cans of food and spins for at least one hour is entered into the opportunity drawing specifically for a 3G bike. All participants will be entered into a drawing for a variety of other prizes. The canned food collected will be donated to the Food Finders Program here in Long Beach, which provides food to local agencies that feed the needy and impoverished.

Maureen MacRae, fitness coordinator, mentions that participants can expect a really fun, energetic event that will kick-off the Thanksgiving holiday. “It’s a great opportunity to not only have fun, but to burn off some extra calories before one of the biggest feasts of the year,” she said. “It’s also a way to give back to the community by donating canned food.”

Jennifer Ratanapratum, personal trainer and nutrition and dietetics major, is participating in this event because, “It's a way for me to contribute my time to the community to benefit others and my personal health. I highly encourage students to participate especially if they've never been on a spin bike before because this is a great opportunity to get comfortable riding leisurely at your own pace and a great reason to hit the gym with your friends before the holiday feast.”

The Spin-a-thon was a huge success last year and the SRWC anticipates the same for this year, but space is limited so participants should sign up early! Sign-ups begin on Monday, Nov. 10 at the SRWC fitness desk by donating one can of food per hour of spinning or Kranking (Krankcycle).
