College life can be stressful. Between classes, exams, working a part-time job, and trying to maintain a social life, your mental and physical health might be overlooked. Beach Balance is thrilled to announce that we will be launching peer-lead wellness coaching at the Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC).
What does a wellness coach actually do? A wellness coach will meet you in sessions to understand your needs, habits and goals. They will help you discover your strengths, abilities and unique skills as well as help you maintain your physical and mental health. Whether you're trying to consume healthier foods, manage stress, increase your motivation, or feel more balanced in life, a wellness coach can help develop healthy routines that work for you. Their overall goal is to help you make small lifestyle changes in areas like nutrition, exercise, stress, sleep, and even time management. Another exciting part of this new program is, we will be offering sessions online and in-person to make it accessible and convenient for our clients.
Our new wellness coaching program will be peer-led by graduate students studying here at Long Beach State University (LBSU). Peer-led wellness coaching is a highly effective way for college students to support each other in managing stress, building healthy habits, and improving their individual well-being. What makes it so impactful is the relatability. You have the opportunity to talk to a fellow student who understands the challenges you may be facing. This creates a comfortable, judgment-free space where meaningful conversations can happen. Our wellness coaching staff will have taken a course in preparation for The American Council on Exercise (ACE), Health coach certification. According to ACE, the health coach certification is the only authorized certification for the NCCA. ACE certified coaches are well known to be the most qualified and recognized professionals to coach clients.
To mark this milestone, the SRWC team plans to host a special celebration during the annual Rec Fest event. A tented area will highlight the center’s history, showcasing photos from the groundbreaking to the grand opening, along with memorable moments from the past 15 years. Throughout the semester, commemorative tote bags will be distributed, reflecting the SRWC’s legacy and commitment to wellness.
We can’t wait to help you start a healthy lifestyle while you work towards your dream career. You can follow us on Instagram and Facebook, to stay updated on our wellness coaching as we get closer to the launch!
