This year signifies the 15th anniversary of the Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC) at Long Beach State University (LBSU)—a lively hub of health, fitness and community that has transformed student life since its inception.
Since 2010, the SRWC has been more than just a gym. It is a 126,500-square-foot, modern facility that has become a key part of campus life, offering inclusive programs, wellness education and recreational activities for all students. From intramural sports and outdoor adventures to Beach Balance wellness workshops and aquatics programs, the SRWC has continually adapted to serve the diverse needs of the LBSU community.
To mark this milestone, the SRWC team plans to host a special celebration during the annual Rec Fest event. A tented area will highlight the center’s history, showcasing photos from the groundbreaking to the grand opening, along with memorable moments from the past 15 years. Throughout the semester, commemorative tote bags will be distributed, reflecting the SRWC’s legacy and commitment to wellness.
This anniversary celebrates more than the past; it reaffirms the SRWC’s mission to promote holistic well-being. The team keeps innovating, and the SRWC stays dedicated to creating a welcoming environment where students can flourish physically, mentally and socially.
Whether through guided meditation, a climb on the rock wall or a simple connection, the SRWC continues to be a space for students to recharge, grow and develop lifelong wellness habits.
Here’s to 15 years of movement, mindfulness and community, and to many more to come.
