Body Fat & BMI Monitoring

Bodies are comprised of many different kinds of tissues (plus a lot of water). There is muscle, fat, bone, and specialized tissue such as is in our various organs. The body fat percentage is just that – the percentage of our weight which is made up of fat. Body fat percentage is similar to terms such as body fat ratio and body composition. The part that isn’t fat is called our “lean body mass.” A 160-pound person with a lean body mass of 120 lbs has 25 percent body fat (40 lbs of fat). That may sound like a lot, but our bodies need a certain amount of fat for insulation, energy storage, hormone production, and other functions scientists are just discovering. The Omron Fat Loss Monitor estimates body fat percentage by using Bioelectrical Impedance (BI) to calculate the Body Mass Index (BMI) and Body Fat Range. Pulse Oximetry

A pulse oximeter is a medical device that indirectly monitors the oxygen saturation of your blood and changes in blood volume in the skin. It functions by shining light through your finger and the sensors detect how much oxygen is in your blood based on the way the light passes through your finger. This helps measure pulse rate, oxygen delivery, and saturation (SpO2) to the peripheral tissues and blood. Pulse Oximetry testing is also useful to check your ability to handle increased activity levels and how hard your heart is working at rest or during exercise.

Blood Pressure Monitor

Blood pressure is one of the most important screenings because high blood pressure usually has no symptoms so it can't be detected without being measured. High blood pressure greatly increases your risk of heart disease and stroke. At Beach Balance, the Omron BP710N is a simple to use upper arm Blood Pressure Monitor. It will store up to 14 readings in its memory for a single user, allowing you to track patterns of the heart. The Omron also uses a wide range cuff that will fit arms of 9 to 17 inches.

Resperate

Resperate is a portable electronic device that promotes slow, deep breathing. Resperate is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for reducing stress and lowering blood pressure. It's available without a prescription. Resperate uses chest sensors to measure your breathing, and then a computerized unit creates a melody for you to use to synchronize your breathing. The melody is supposed to help you slow your breathing with long exhalations. Resperate is generally intended to be used at least 15 minutes a day, three to four days a week. Within a few weeks, the deep-breathing exercises can help lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure — the top and bottom numbers in a blood pressure reading. You may need to keep doing the breathing exercises to maintain the blood pressure lowering benefits.

Body Composition Monitor

The Omron Body Composition Monitor provides seven different fitness indicators including Weight, BMI, Body Fat Percentage, Body Age, Resting Metabolism, Visceral Fat, and Skeletal Muscle Percentage. With this full body sensing, you are provided an understanding to assist you in reaching your health and wellness goals! This device is offered exclusively at USU Beach Balance.
